Availability of ESC in cars 2009

In 2009, the German Insurers Accident Research for the fourth time carried out an investigation into the availability of ESC in new cars in Germany.

The positive trend towards greater numbers of vehicle models being fitted with ESC as standard continued in 2009: In 2006, only 58 percent of the models investigated were fitted with ESC as standard, whereas this figure had risen to 72 percent in 2009. In the super-mini class, however, there are still only two (Smart and Toyota IQ) of the 17 models investigated that are fitted with ESC as standard. Even if ESC will be mandatory for all new cars in Europe in a matter of a few years, car manufacturers should already start equipping all of their vehicles with ESC.
