Motorway

In Germany, more than 13,000 km of motorways form the backbone of long-distance transport. Given the large number of vehicles using the motorways, they can be regarded as the safest roads in Germany. Nevertheless, junctions and roadworks in particular are repeatedly the scene of accidents. Increasing traffic volumes and a growing proportion of heavy goods vehicles also heighten the risk of accidents on motorways.
