Young drivers are a high-risk group. The combination of the risks associated with being a novice driver and with youth leads to unconscious misjudgements and deliberately risky driving behaviour. In addition to target-group-specific awareness campaigns, road safety education initiatives and targeted checks, driver training for young drivers must also be optimised.

134 | Analysis of Effects of Vehicle Occupant Characteristics on Jujury Severity in GIDAS Data

In the context of gender equity, a so-called “gender gap” is sometimes assumed to exist in the development of crash safety of passenger cars. Several analyses of crash data from the U.S. had found a higher risk for moderate and severe injuries for female occupants than for male occupants. The present study aims to identify variables that determine injury severity. It analyses crash data from the German In-Depth Accident Study (GIDAS) that represent the basis for a statistical analysis using multivariate logistic regression to model the probability of injury for given severity levels.
