Rural road
The term ‘rural roads’ refers to all roads outside built-up areas that are not part of the urban road network. Depending on the authority responsible for their maintenance, these may be federal roads, state roads, county roads or even local roads. Most fatal road accidents on Germanys roads occur on rural roads. Accidents involving trees, motorcycles or overtaking are often particularly serious. Less serious, but all the more frequent, are collisions with wildlife. Every year, around a quarter of a million accidents involving motor vehicles and wild animals are reported.
