Prevention measures for e-scooter use

The UDV derived recommendations for effective information and education measures for preventing e-scooter accidents.

These recommendations can be used for developing and implementing prevention measures for e-scooter use. The target group is first-time and occasional users as they are inexperienced and often not familiar with traffic rules for e-scooter.

Prevention measures should focus on three topics:

  • e-scooter handling and driving dynamics,
  • critical situations, and
  • traffic rules and regulations.

Rational and emotionally positive appeals as well as humorous approaches should be used when conveying information. Digital formats (e.g., apps) are recommended for the mostly young user group. For driving dynamics the focus should be on trainings.

Detailed information on the methodology and scientific basis of the project can be found in UDV Research Report No. 87 "Prevention measures for e-scooter users".
